_ david klausmeyer's dairy farm, close enough to Wichita to see fireworks in the summer (though they're best from the roof)

_ david and his daughter theresa, she has three more years at home before she's off to college. his two sons are somewhat interested in farming, but he's not so sure they'll be taking anything over any time soon. milk prices are at a low, so with his wife he put in pumpkin patches, a classroom, and promotes tours of the property. theresa is learning to give the tours, and as she led us around regularly consulted a notebook kept under one arm.

_ roman is on a field internship from Germany, where he's studying agriculture. he's spending six weeks living and working with the klausmeyers. his girlfriend will soon come and stay with him for a week, and then they'll return to europe. we found him with theresa in the milking room.

_ david gave us glasses of milk straight from the cow (though chilled somewhat). we took home a couple gallons in an old orange juice container. a couple glasses of that in the morning and you'll be full all day.

_ a mother and son come to pick up some milk directly from the dairy. in kansas it's legal to sell un-pasteurized milk provided the consumers bring their own containers. she says if you buy this milk you'll never get sick. her son ran off to look at the rabbit.

_ school's out for the summer, mosquitoes breed in the tall grass by the football fields.
