strawberry springs, steamboat springs, colorado

_ after the beauty of the flaming gorge and lucerne marina, we spent a terrible night in a dark, lonely forest, lying on swampy ground, besieged at dawn by mosquitoes big as crane flies. we woke, cramped and abused, and drove the seven or so miles of dirt road into the hidden valleys above steamboat springs, in search of the strawberry springs.

_ naturally-ocurring hot springs beside a cold mountain river, they were the perfect antidote. we lay there for a long while.

_ the springs are open year-round, and there are little huts you can rent overnight.
