pima air and space museum, tucson, arizona

_ though we initially wanted a tour of the davis monthan air force base boneyard, we had to settle for the (still awesome) pima air and space museum. somewhat avoiding 'real' tucson, we wandered around in the heat and saw many acres of old planes, including this super guppy, which was used to transport parts destined for the international space station.

_ the exhibits are both inside and outside. in this first hanger there were old and relatively current aircraft, and, standing beside them a museum guard. we went over to talk to him, and realized that he was standing astride a little lizard. we asked him what was up, and he told us the lizard had gotten lost in the fields and stumbled into the hanger, and he was going to take care of him until he found his way back.

_ the rear of an old member of air force one, showing no less pride than ever.

_ a genuine piece of moon rock, mounted in a slightly dusty piece of perspex in an almost hidden exhibit.

_ when we were growing up, there were temporary tattoos in this shape. whoever had this on the top of his hand was automatically the coolest.

_ there were almost too many planes out there, and we wish we could show you all the pictures. especially of the sikorsky ch-54 skycrane (google it...)
